How to File a Cyber Crime Complaint on the Cybercrime.gov.in Portal: Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Access the Portal

  1. Open your web browser and go to Cybercrime.gov.in.
  2. Choose your language from the options available at the top right corner of the homepage for better understanding.

Step 2: Register or Log In

  1. Click on “Report Other Cyber Crime” if you are reporting a cybercrime other than cybercrime against women and children. For crimes against women and children, click on “Report Crime Against Women & Children”.
  2. You will be prompted to register yourself. Click on the "Click Here to Report" button.
  3. Create an account by providing your basic details such as name, email address, and phone number. You will receive an OTP on your registered phone number for verification.
  4. If you already have an account, simply log in with your credentials.

Step 3: File the Complaint

  1. Fill in the necessary details in the complaint form. This includes your personal details, details of the incident, and information about the suspect if known.
  2. Describe the incident thoroughly in the provided fields. Make sure to include all relevant details like date, time, and nature of the cybercrime.
  3. Upload supporting documents if any. This could include screenshots, emails, chat logs, or any other evidence related to the cybercrime.

Step 4: Submit the Complaint

  1. Review your complaint to ensure all information provided is accurate and complete.
  2. Click on the “Submit” button to file your complaint.
  3. You will receive an acknowledgment with a unique reference number. This reference number can be used to track the status of your complaint.

Step 5: Follow Up

  1. Track your complaint using the reference number provided in the acknowledgment. You can track the status by logging into your account on the portal.
  2. Respond to any queries or additional information requests from the cybercrime authorities to facilitate the investigation process.
